2020-2021 School Year Update

Virtual Parent Orientation

March 12, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It will soon be that time of the year again for your son and daughter to show what they know. Unfortunately, even during this pandemic, we are still required to check our students’ progress with our end of the year Ohio State Tests and Map testing. It is mandatory for all students to come into the building to test.

If your child is already a hybrid learner, they will stay on their same schedule.

If your child is a 100% remote learner, for their safety, we have made arrangements for them to come into the building on specific days. You will be getting something in the mail shortly.

In order to properly physically distance, it is important that you stick to these assigned days. Once your child is finished taking their tests, you are welcomed to pick them up early if they are car riders. If your child will need transportation, please call the school no later than Monday, March 22nd. Again, these tests are mandatory from the state and will help to determine proper placement for next school year.

 Sincerely,

 Monica Jones, Director

Hello East Prep Families,

I’m sure by now that you have heard that East Prep is planning to move to a hybrid learning on March 1st. Teachers spent last week contacting you to see if you want your child to stay %100 remote or participate in hybrid learning, and if transportation is needed. If you have not heard from your child’s teacher, please contact the school. The hybrid learning will consist of your child learning at school two days a week and learning remotely two days a week. Wednesdays will continue to be a day of professional development for our staff.

Within the next couple of weeks, we will be sending out more information about what two days your child(ren) will be in the building. Please be advised that switching days is not an option. Also, if you chose 100% remote, switching to hybrid is not an option as well. There are many factors that are going into our planning, such as; number of people in the building per day, social distancing, class space, transportation, meals, etc… Your deadline to decide 100% remote or hybrid will be Monday, February 8, 2021.

Once again, more information will follow with the specifics of how hybrid and remote learning will look. Please don’t worry, uniforms will not be required at this time. Students will only need to be appropriately dressed and have appropriate shoes on. Thank you again for your support.

Mrs. Jones, Director

This is an important message regarding our instructional plan for the 2nd marking period of this school year. We have been following public health data and advisories regarding this fall and the upcoming flu season. We have also listened to you, our families, and appreciate your feedback.

After a review of the health data for Cuyahoga County and the city of Cleveland, and the movement of our county to Level 3/Red, we have decided to remain remote until our planned Winter Break, beginning December 21, 2020. We have been pleased with the efforts of our students and our families’ dedication to virtual learning. The teachers and I will continue to assess student progress and communicate with our families. Students who are academically vulnerable will be provided with additional support.

Should health data improve over the next few months, we may shift to hybrid learning. We will communicate in advance so that your family can make the necessary arrangements.

Please know that we remain committed to the health and safety of our students, staff and families. It is our top priority. While we miss seeing our students, we know that we are making the right decision.

Stay well,

Monica Jones, School Director

 Good Afternoon East Prep Families!

Starting Friday, 8/28 we are scheduling 5-6 students each day per grade to meet their teacher, pick up their materials, and take their MAP assessments. The time will be from 9-2. Breakfast and lunch will be served in their classroom. We will be calling you shortly with your child’s schedule. Mask must be worn at all times. Physical distancing must be adhered to. They do not need to be in uniform. Parents please note: unless your child is scheduled they will not be allowed to enter the building.

Good Afternoon East Prep Family!

The Cuyahoga County Board of Health has recommended that all schools in our county start the school year remotely due to the elevated risk posed to students, staff, and family members. Therefore, East Preparatory Academy will be 100% remote for the first 9 weeks of school. Beyond that, we will continue to follow the CCBH lead regarding the safety of reopening schools. We will keep you posted in the weeks to come, but rest assured your feedback will be considered when making future decisions.

East Prep is looking at each student receiving a chromebook in order to facilitate successful 100% remote learning since no packets will be distributed. Parents, please be aware that the academic structure of the students’ school day will not resemble what occurred during the spring. The state has issued guidelines regarding mandatory virtual attendance and grading which East Prep will adhere to. Details are to follow.

The office staff will be scheduling 5-6 students per grade to come in for a day during the week of August 31st thru September 3rd. They will meet their teacher, get their supplies and chromebook, and take their NWEA Map assessments. Hours will be from 9-2 and breakfast and lunch will be served. We would prefer if you brought your child on your assigned day, but transportation will be provided if need be. Please do not drop your child off unless they are scheduled to be here that day or else they will not be allowed in the building. This is because we are dedicated to keeping everyone safe during these trying times. More details will follow.

Thank you families for your continued support.

The staff and I hope that your families are having a safe and healthy summer! We are excited to welcome back our Eagles. We have been working all summer to create a back to school plan that will meet our families’ needs and adhere to state and federal health guidelines. It is important for us to honor parent voice and choice and we respect your ability to make the right decision for your family.

Therefore, we will be sending you an email and/or text with a link to complete for the 20-21 school year. Included in this link will be the Parent Choice Form. You will indicate your preference for blended or remote only learning. This email/text is your opportunity to make important decisions regarding this upcoming school year.

Blended learning will consist of a combination of in school and remote learning. Remote learning will be offered as a 100% out of school option. These choices are only for the first semester of school as we continue to monitor the levels in Cuyahoga County with COVID19. Please also know that Ohio’s Public Health Advisory System will affect decisions regarding school opening and closure.

Should you choose remote learning, please call 216.539.0595 by July 31st to secure a 100% Remote Learning spot. This will assist us with planning for technology. You will still need to complete the link, as it contains requests for essential information.

As we are located in Cleveland, our schedule must mirror CMSD’s due to transportation and other factors. Therefore, the first day of school will be SEPTEMBER 8th, the day immediately following Labor Day.

Please watch for the link. Should you have any questions, please reach out to us at 216.539.0595.

Sincerely,
Monica Jones, Director
